ESG

Sustainability is at the forefront of everything we do here at Jackson Square.

We are committed to creating a more sustainable future for Bishop’s Stortford by reducing our impact on the local environment. This includes:

As a site we send 0% waste to landfill and achieved a 35% recycling rate for 2025, a significant increase from 23.1% in 2024. So far in 2026, we have achieved a 48.6% recycling rate (based on 3 months of reporting).

We have 5 recycling streams which our stores are also required to follow: General / Mixed / Cardboard / Food Waste / Glass. Anything that cannot be recycled is diverted to generate energy for the centre and our stores.

Any fixtures, fittings or items left in vacant units are upcycled and reused where possible, most recently to fit out our Community Space.

We donate any non-recyclable wooden pallets to the local potato farm or local schools for repurposing.

We continuously monitor and review all energy consumptions (Gas, Electric & Water) to ensure we only use what we need. This allowed us to achieve a Green Apple Environmental Award in 2017 – Retail Energy Saving Silver Winner.

We have 80% LED lighting throughout the mall, with 100% motion sensors in all loading bays which allows light to come on only when needed.

As part of Legal & General’s Sustainable Real Estate Investment Policy, we have no heating or cooling facilities in the landlord areas as electricity used in these areas is 100% renewable.

Over 150 community events were delivered in 2025, spanning more than 200 days on site, and we provided over 110,000 sq ft of space completely free of charge to community groups, charity partners, local organisations and social initiatives.
