Jackson Square Recycles ‘tonnes’ of Batteries
In 2009 Jackson Square Shopping Centre became the first destination in Hertfordshire to become home to a battery recycling cylinder.
Following the European Directive which states that 25% of all batteries placed on the market must be recycled by 2012, the Bishops Stortford centre decided it would help its local residents to recycle their batteries by placing a recycling cylinder in the centre.
The scheme started in January 2009 and over the past twelve months shoppers at Jackson Square have helped the centre to recycle over 440kg of batteries. In 2010 the centre would like to recycle ‘tonnes’ more and urges shoppers to keep their batteries and recycle them in Jackson Square. The recycling bin can be found opposite Argos.
Grace Bagster, Centre Manager at Jackson Square comments.
“I’m delighted that our first year of battery recycling has been such a huge success. I’d like more shoppers to remember that we are the only place in Hertfordshire where you can do this for free so if you’d like to help us to help the environment then please bring your batteries here!”
If you’d like to recycle your batteries drop them into the bin situated outside Argos.
