Jackson Square Announce Community Arts Project Winners!
After a phenomenal start to the year and a tremendous amount of work from local schools, Jackson Square Shopping Centre is proud to announce the three winners of its first ever Community Arts project!
On Saturday 12th March the final 15 shortlisted student entries went on display for two weeks inside the centre atrium of Jackson Square.
The local community and Jackson Square shoppers were invited to vote for their favourite design across two weeks by either visiting the centre and placing a counter into a box that corresponded with the student design or by simply clicking online and casting a vote. After counting up the counters and collating these with the numerous online votes we are thrilled to reveal our three winners.
Winners:
The Leventhorpe School - Connor Stockbridge & Ethan Moss
St Mary’s Catholic School - Nadia Howard
Herts & Essex School - Eleanor Stephenson
The Community Arts Project is a local art initiative which invited local secondary schools Leventhorpe, Herts & Essex and St Mary’s Catholic school to put pen to paper and provide input for local artists to produce a piece of attractive art for Jackson Square.
The fantastic scheme is designed to construct a visually attractive piece of town art that represents Bishops Stortford’s values, its strong community and positive atmosphere. Set to transform the entrance to the walkway on Potter Street, between The Saffron Walden Society and Pizza Hut, it is intended to draw attention to the small independent shops on Devoils Lane and unite the entire community.
The winning design from each school will then be used as inspiration for the art work which will be installed and unveiled this summer. The three winners will now get to visit the artist’s workshop in Ware, Hertfordshire to see their design in the making.
Centre Manager Grace commented, “We are absolutely thrilled with the three winners that the public have chosen and can’t wait to share these with our artist to begin working on them. Keep your eyes peeled for our summer launch; it is one not to be missed! Thank you everyone for your involvement so far.”
